Nihan Acar Denizli has been recognized as an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI)

Nihan Acar Denizli, a professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the UPC, has been elected as an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), a recognition of her teaching and research career and her contributions to the field of statistics.

Holding a PhD since 2016 from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSU) in Istanbul, Denizli focuses her research on functional data analysis, particularly the development of new methodologies for analyzing complex sensor data in the environmental and health sciences.

Throughout her career, she has published 25 indexed articles and three book chapters, and has participated in three projects funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and two European projects as a member of the UPC’s ADBD group. A highlight of her work is leading the data analysis for the Big Data Sjögren Consortium, which involves data from over 25,000 patients.

She has also been recognized in the CSIC ranking of Spain’s most outstanding female researchers. Her track record includes, among other distinctions, the World Bank Trust Fund (2017) and a grant from the Turkish Council of Higher Education (2014).

Denizli is a member of the ISI, IASC, and SEIO, and has participated in organizing various scientific sessions. He has also co-chaired two editions of the y-BIS international conferences (in 2011 and 2019) and possesses extensive experience teaching statistics in fields such as statistics, business, and engineering.

His election as an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute recognizes his scientific and academic contributions and helps strengthen the international profile of statistics research conducted at the UPC.
